Symptoms of Three of the Most Common Issues

People may experience some form of Anxiety, Stress, Depression or Insomnia at various stages in their lives.  If you have been experiencing any of the symptoms described below for a sustained period of time it would be beneficial to speak with your GP. Hypnotherapy can help elevate these issues and some can be dealt within just a few sessions, depending on the issue.

The most common issues are listed below with information to help you recognise the symptoms or signs. With sleep disorders, you can gauge how much sleep you should be trying to achieve for optimum health depending on your age.


Anxiety is intense periods of fear or feelings of doom that develop over a very short timeframe – up to 10 minutes – and associated with at least four of the following:

  • Sudden overwhelming fear
  • Palpitations
  • Sweating
  • Trembling
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sense of choking
  • Chest pain
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • A feeling of being detached from the world (de-realisation)
  • Fear of dying
  • Numbness or tingling in the limbs or entire body
  • Chills or hot flushes

Sleep Disorders

Good sleep is necessary for optimal health. The amount of sleep can affect your hormone levels, mood and weight. So how much sleep do you need?

  • Infants (ages 0-3 months) need 14-17 hours a day
  • Infants (ages 4-11 months) need 12-15 hours a day
  • Toddlers (ages 1-2 years) need about 11-14 hours a day
  • Pre-school children (ages 3-5) need 10-13 hours a day
  • School-age children (ages 6-13) need 9-11 hours a day
  • Teenagers (ages 14-17) need about 8-10 hours each day
  • Most adults need 7 to 9 hours, although some people may need as few as 6 hours or as many as 10 hours of sleep each day
  • Older adults (ages 65 and older) need 7-8 hours of sleep each day
  • Women in the first 3 months of pregnancy often need several more hours of sleep than usual
